Man critical following crash

One of the victims involved in a two-car crash on State Highway 33 south of Paengaroa overnight has been transferred to Waikato Hospital in a critical condition.

The 33-year-old man suffered multiple head, chest, torso, pelvic and leg injuries after the Toyota he was a passenger in collided with a Holden vehicle at around 5.30pm on Monday.

The man, along with the male driver of the Toyota and the female driver of the Holden, were all taken to Tauranga Hospital last night.

The 27-year-old man suffered minor leg injuries and the 18-year-old woman sustained minor head injuries.

A Tauranga Hospital spokesperson confirms the 33-year-old has since been transferred to Waikato Hospital where he is in a critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit.

Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion says investigations in to the crash are ongoing.

At the time of the crash the Toyota was travelling north on SH33 when it collided with the Holden, which was heading south.

Diversions were in place for about three-and-a-half hours while emergency services attended the scene.
