Pedestrian killed, name released

Police have named the pedestrian killed after being struck by a vehicle in Whakatane on Friday.

He has been formally identified as 17-year-old Whakatane teenager Raiden Howden.

Police say the teenager was stuck by a car on Keepa Rd on April 24 just before 9pm. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Enquiries are also continuing into a second fatal crash in the Awakeri area of Whakatane the following night, which claimed the life of another 17-year-old man.

Emergency services were called to the scene on State Highway 30, near Kope Drain Rd, shortly after 9pm on Saturday night.

Police say his details will be released as soon as the formalities have been completed.
