Man dies in Pukehina accident

UPDATED 12.15pm: A 75-year-old man is dead following a crash in Pukehina this morning.

Early indications are that a vehicle was heading in an easterly direction on Old Coach Road at about 7.50am and collided with the man, who was moving stock with his son.

Emergency services attended, however, the man died at the scene a short time later.

A police serious crash officer attended the scene and an investigation is underway by Tauranga Police, says Senior Sergeant Shannon Clifford.

'The man's details will be released once the next of kin have had time to advise family and friends,” says Shannon.

'Police are seeking witnesses to the incident, in particular a female driving a silver vehicle that drove through the scene and stopped shortly after the incident occurred.”

An elderly man has died after being struck by a vehicle on Old Coach Road, Pukehina today.

Fire Service Northern Communications shift manager Scott Osmond says the death has been reported by fire crew at the scene of the accident.

The man, believed to be in his 70s, was knocked down shortly before 8am, while moving stock.

Police have closed Old Coach Road between Macdougall Quarry Road and Ohinepanea Road.

The two schools on Old Coach Road - Pukehina School near the Macdougall Quarry Road intersection and Otamarakau School at the other end near SH2 - remain unaffected by the closure.

Serious crash investigators are making their way to the scene.
