The curtain raiser at Tauranga Domain was played in extremely wet weather, with the Tauranga Sports second fifteen waltzing away from Te Puna to post a 73-nil victory. They will meet Te Puke Sports next weekend in the Western Bay of Plenty title decider.

Te Puke Sports were also in dominant form in booking the other berth in the final of the Western Bay Development competition, overcoming Rangataua 58-8 at Te Ariki Field. Mount Maunganui had a real arm wrestle with Greerton Marist at Greerton headquarters before grabbing a solitary point victory. Greerton led six-nil at the half way stage of the encounter, before the visitors came back to score a converted try and take out the match.

The first past the post Division One title race is wide open with one round remaining. Arataki and Judea are tied at the top of the standings, with Rangiuru one point behind, while Katikati is just another point adrift in fourth place.

On Saturday Arataki and Judea were locked in a game of attrition at Maharaia Winiata Park. While Arataki took a ten point lead into the half time break, the home side came back with a try and a penalty goal in the second spell before going down 10-8.

Rangiuru had little trouble defeating Matakana Island on the Island, posting 51 unanswered points. The Western Bay Division One title will be decided on Anzac Day, when Arataki host Katikati at Grenada Park, with Rangiuru at home at Centennial Park in Te Puke to Judea.
