Motorists planning on travelling between Tauranga and Rotorua this Sunday are being reminded to use an alternative route as the State Highway 36 will be closed.

The NZ Transport Agency says the highway will be closed at the Mangapouri Gorge Bridge from 9pm on Sunday until 5am on Monday.

Work on a one-way bridge on State Highway 36 will see a section of the highway closed on Sunday night.

The closure is to allow repairs to be carried out safely on the one-way bridge, says the NZTA.

Alternative routes during this closure are via SH5 and SH28 over the Kaimai Range, or SH33 and SH2 via Te Puke.
