Crash causes power outage

Power lines are down on Ohauiti Road after a car crashed into a power pole.

There are no reports of major injuries and everyone is out of the car.

Power remains out in Ohauiti following a crash.

The crash is reported south of Adler Drive.

Emergency services are at the scene.

Powerco estimates it should have restored to homes in Ohauiti and Hairini around 3.30pm.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hot line says the pole is completely destroyed and the car is in a ditch.

The cause of the crash is being investigated.

Thanks to the idiots who caused this crash. The power outage has cost me my washing machine and oven. If anyone knows who they are, I want to send them a bill for $2500 to replace these appliances

To much speed and not enough brains is the reason for this accident. People do not realise the consequences of their actions in regards to how a few minutes of stupidity can result in hours of inconvenience to the overall local community.

Yet another power pole!

What is this fatal attraction between kiwi drivers and power poles?

reading other comments, I am not the only 'judgmental' one here, but you are judging me. My comment was tongue in cheek, pointing to the first sentence of the article, whereby 'a car crashed into a power pole.' Too many publicised car crashes leave out a driver, not only in this wonderful publication. Welcome to the world of online commentators, where one can't take back what they submit. I have previously commented on 'armchair critics', suggesting people wait for facts... My comment had nothing to do with the driver. If any of your suggested reasons for the crash come to light, it won't change the fact that the car didn't crash into the power pole, but was driven into it.

I live not far from the accident speed was a factor on a wet road in a car with bald tyres plenty of witnesses to back this up.Totaly avoidable no power for 8 hours.Big raps to the power company that worked in horrible conditions to restore our power it's going to be a very expensive lesson I would say.

It was an accident cause by terrible roads and bad weather, im sure the young teen would of been trying to drift his 2tonne BMW on the way to WORK. All of you 'wise' elderly people need to realize accidents do happen and this was one, the car was travelling below the speed limit and actually swerved to avoid an oncoming truck on this skinny poorly maintained road, which set the car off balance causing it so slide out in the poor weather. Find out the facts before you jump to conclusions and assume it was caused by speed. There was one witness present at the time of the accident and the other 'witnesses' came out once the ACCIDENT had happened. I know this because I was one of the people in the car. And as for the washing machine and oven, dream on.

Want to be racers!

Cant believe a passenger would have posted that utter nonsense. This vehicle was seen drifting around corners on the wrong side out of control minutes before they stacked it down Ohauiti Rd, just very grateful they took out the power pole and not some poor person or family in an oncomming vehicle!! Go practice your lack of skills on a race track!!

If the car is sliding in the rain you are NOT driving to the conditions! regardles of what the posted speed limit is drive to the conditions. Another example of bad driving!!!

Sure thing mate, cause you were all there at the time of the accident and know everything!! I'm sure all of you are perfect and have never had an accident or know anyone who has had an accident. Face it, if we were 30 driving a Prius and this had happened the sympathy from others would be outstanding, but we are teenagers and males, it's nothing but conclusions you are jumping to.

Lol

So if everybody is saying the same thing then is there not a small clue there for you??? Best you tell the police accident investigators you know more about crashs than they do too with all your teen driving experience behind you. Clearly your mate cant drive!!!!

@kenworthlogger

"lol" very "lol" indeed.. Everyone is saying the same thing because of one comment that has escalated. Police accident investigators? There was no accident investigating done mate, the driver was taken for questioning and the car was removed, the cops cleared out within minutes but i guess you knew that just like you and others seem to know everything regardless of not being there. My teen driving experience? I could almost bet I'm a better driver than you "kenworthlogger", as you get older things deteriorate like your driving for example!!! He can drive, explain how he has his full licence if he cannot drive? Accidents happen champ.

Yeah mate

Posted on 24-04-2015 16:47 | By Kenworthlogger

I can tell your mate is a good driver. He has rolled his car on its roof thats really good noob driving. The picture says it all. Hate to see what you thoght was a bad driver. You wouldnt be able to drive what i can mate. You wont have the class licence for it. I never said there was an accident investigation into your crash. Go back to school and learn to read.

Bad driving

Just face it Fltbsh. Your mate lost control of the car and crashed it!

I'd suggest you quit now before you make yourself look like more of a twat. I'm a young person, and a professional driver at that. The full license test is an absolute joke, as long as you don't crash you're more or less guaranteed to pass, and yes, if a vehicle is sliding on a wet road, or a dirt road, or on loose metal, then it's being driven too fast. It's fun, yes, but don't cry foul when it all turns pear-shaped.

God you people are funny, so quick to get your nickers in a twist and make stupid remarks without knowing s**t. The full licence test is more than not crashing, its based on more than that. It was accidental, we weren't sliding when we were driving, we were sliding after we took the corner wide to miss an oncoming ute, which caused us to slide. All you people see is, wet, teenagers and power pole and you jump to conclusions. Think about things before you make dumb comments that only get peoples backs up, if it were on purpose then so be it wouldn't be on here arguing. Why do you think i would be on here trying to tell you people that it was an accident, cause quite frankly i don't care just sick of idiots thinking they know everything.

@Kenworthlogger

Posted on 28-04-2015 12:03 | By Fltbsh

Never said he didn't lose control, what I'm saying is it wasn't on purpose. You're telling me to go back to school? Look at yourself, you drive trucks hahahahaha.

I aced school

Posted on 29-04-2015 05:30 | By Devils-advocate

And I drive trucks. Do you think only the illiterate can be drivers? How about self employed drivers, they're business owners, can they have failed school too? Face it kid, your buddy screwed up. Hopefully you both learned from it, so you don't end up in another power pole, or fence, or house, or ditch.......or even under a truck.

Finally he admits it

Posted on 29-04-2015 08:02 | By Kenworthlogger

So you finally admit your mate loast control ah. If he was driving to the conditions ie on his side of the road he would not have had to swerve. If you cant see around the corner you should be going much slower or did they not teach you that on your driving lessons. If that was his driving test do you think they would have given him his license? Nothing wrong with driving trucks mate especially when you own it....

Well said Devils-Advocate

Posted on 29-04-2015 08:42 | By Kenworthlogger

i dont think Fltbsh has learned though. He still thinks it was not his mates fault. Devils both of us being professional drivers we know that if we are sliding regardsless of weather its on purpose or not it means you are going to fast for the conditions. Unfortunatly it wont be his last crash as he seems to think his mate was doing good??? Hopefully he or his mate does not crash into either of our Truck or trailer units.

Never once have i said its not his fault, never once have i said he didn't loose control. All i'm saying is that it wasn't on purpose. Read before you jump to conclusions. Ofcourse he wasn't in control or he wouldn't have crashed, but the fact that the reason it started was an accident is my point, a truck in the opposite lane came the other way at high speeds, we were going below the speed limit, driving to the conditions until we had to swerve to miss him. Back in the day "acing" school wasn't hard, big ups to you champ. I have my level 3 NCEA with Excellence, that's a tad more "aced" than you pal.
