Man admits groin attack

An Eastern Bay of Plenty man has admitted to taking a metal hook to another man's groin.

Stephen John Docherty, 66, pleaded guilty to wounding with intent when he appeared in Whakatane District Court earlier this week.

A man suffered injuries to his scrotum, which needed surgery.

The charge stems from an incident on March 17 when Docherty arrived home in Kawerau to find out work that he'd hired the victim to do had not been done as he wanted.

According to court documents, Docherty threatened to rip the victim's penis off.

When the victim arrived back at the property, he and Docherty got into a heated argument.

Docherty repeated his earlier threat saying he would rip the man's testicle out.

Using a 15cm long hook fashioned out of a steel rod, Docherty reached down past the victim's groin before pulling the hook sharply, causing the hook to rip through the victim's pants and scrotum.

The victim needed surgery to repair the damage.

When he was interviewed by police, Docherty said he had lost his temper.

After pleading guilty to the incident, Docherty was remanded in bail for sentencing on June 12.
