Colleges prepare for final clash

Two comprehensive wins has Western Heights High School looking like the side to beat heading into finals day at the annual Western Bay of Plenty Co Ed First XV tournament.

Katikati and Bethlehem colleges did little to trouble the Rotorua school on the opening day of the tournament held at Otumoetai College, who went on to secure a pair of 30-plus point victories.

The fifth annual two-day tournament is a chance for schools to get in valuable pre-season hit-outs in a shortened format of 20 minute halves.

Joining Western Heights for a chance at the silverware after Saturday's opening day is Te Puke High School, with the pair meeting in tomorrow's final at 1pm.

Western Heights made light work of their two matches, easily accounting for Katikati High School 35-0 and Otumoetai College 31-0.

Te Puke drew with Te Whar Kura O Mauao 12-12 in their opening match before bouncing back to crush Bethlehem College 38-5.

In other matches Bethlehem lost to Te Whar Kura O Mauao 26-0 and Te Puke High School 38-5.

Otumoetai College lost to Western Heights and Katikati College 31-0 and 10-5 respectively.
