Scattered showers to end the week

While a weak trough of low pressure has brought showers to many parts of the country, the associated cloudiness has been responsible for mild overnight temperatures, with many places remaining in the mid-to-high teens.

'Wellington Airport recorded a minimum of 17C this morning, which is around 3.5C warmer than average for this time of year,” says MetService Meteorologist Peter Little.

The MetService is forecasting showers for the rest of the week.

Temperatures in the Bay are sitting around the mid-20s for daily highway and around 17 degrees for overnight lows.

The theme of mostly cloudy and often wet weather is set to continue right through until early next week.

Today and Friday, the weak trough affecting New Zealand brings another scattering of showers, especially to northern and western areas.

Temperatures remain mild, with light to moderate winds expected.

Over the weekend, a low moves from the Tasman Sea across the South Island, while an associated front crosses the North Island.

'These features bring a burst of rain to much of the country, with heavy falls possible in the west and the far south,” says Peter.

'As the low and front depart to our east, a cooler southwesterly flow spreads over New Zealand, with further showers and windy conditions to start the working week.”
