Final chance for schools

With just the last round of qualifying play remaining before the WBOPCA Secondary School First XI playoffs, it's looking like a four horse for the title.

Heading into Saturday's final round Aquinas College, Tauranga Boys' College Blue and White and Taupo Combined Schools all make up the top four.

While Aquinas College sit in the top spot in the current standings with TBC Blue, they have a game in hand and will be in the box seat for a home-semifinal, if they defeat Katikati College.

Last weekend Aquinas beat defending title holders Bethlehem College in a low scoring encounter. Bethlehem batted first and were removed for 100 runs, with Aquinas bowler Joseph Robinson in good form taking four wickets for just 14 runs.

However, Aquinas were made to fight their way to victory losing six wickets on the way.

Katikati College, will go into the match-up with Aquinas, after a comfortable win over Mount Maunganui Gold last weekend.

Mount Gold had first use of the batting strip and were bowled out for 90, with Jared Topp the best of the Katikati bowlers returning 2/9. Katikati cruised to a seven wicket victory, to post their first win of the First XI Championship.

Tauranga Boys' Blue will meet Bethlehem College after getting home with a solid win against Otumoetai College.

The Tauranga Boys' side posted 175 all out, with Jared Tutty top scoring with a solid 86 - then removed Otumoetai for 134 with Oakley Dench and Jacob Logan grabbing four wickets apiece.

The other First XI match-ups will see, Trident High School host Otumoetai College in the Eastern Bay of Plenty, with TBC White at home to Taupo Combined Schools.
