Shaving lids for Child Cancer

People will be sporting the bald look after today with about 20 people shaving their locks for the Child Cancer Foundation.

The Mount Beach Bald 2015 Funrazor Shave Your Lid for a Brave Kid event started at Mount Main Beach at 11.30am.

CCF business development manager Delwynne Hahunga says it's not raining and it's another great day here on Mount Main Beach.

'I think we have had more than 20 people come down and have their heads shaved today.

What a great response. The people are awesome.

'Some people are quite nervous about what they're doing but because it has such significant meaning, that's why they are here. They're not just having a haircut.”

The money raised from today's event will go towards children with cancer and their families.

'We do all sorts of things for our kids and families and every family is different,” says Delwynne, 'we help them however they need help.”

Among those shaving their heads is nine-year-old George Brown.

George's mum is having chemo treatment and is bald, so her son wanted to support her by being bald too.

Dominion Salt Chief Executive Officer Shane Dufaur is also shedding his locks to help make a difference in the lives of children and families less fortunate than his own.

'So here I am, about to lose my hair for the kids who deserve a chance the most. To temporarily swap my hair for a smile on a few kids' faces – good deal I think.”

The Weekend Sun's advertising consultant Doug Britton also wants to make a difference by sporting a bald head for a while.

'I'm inspired by the work of the Child Cancer Foundation and want to support them by raising money as part of my participation in Mount Beach Bald 2015.”
