Building goes off the boil

February building consents issued by Tauranga City Council are down across the board, according to figures released by Priority One today.

The total value of building consents issued in February was $39.6 million, down from the $48m worth of consents issued in January, but higher than the $37.1m issued in February last year.

The highest number of consents issued since November 2007 is $54.5m in July 2014. The two year low is $24.8m in April 2013.

The total number of consents issued in February is 142 - 10 less than the 152 in January and considerably lower than 182 recorded in February 2014. The two-year high is 226 consents issued in August last year, and the two year low is the 134 consents recorded in January 2014.

Consents are approved for single dwellings worth a total of $23.1 million, down from January's $30.7 million, which is the two-year high in this category.

Housing consents are also down on the $26.8m recorded in February 2014. The two-year low is $15.5m recorded in April 2013.

The number of houses approved is 67, and commercial building is past the January peak, with consents in February 2015 valued at $7.5m. It's less than $10.8m issued in January, but still ahead of the $6.1m issued February 2014.

Two large commercial consents approved in February are a $1 million stage one of a warehouse and office development at Tauriko and the $3.5 million stage three of the Trustpower head office development in the city centre.

The two-year high in commercial consents is $16.6m recorded in August 2014, while the low over the same period is $1.9m recorded in April 2013.

The number of commercial consents approved in February is 17. The two-year high in the commercial category is 35 consents issued in August 2014, while the low over the same period is 9 consents in January of the same year.

Government & community consents were valued at $6.7m, an increase on last month's $2.7m.

They are the $1 million development of offices for the Blind Foundation, the development of a new $1.2 million technology block at Tauranga Boys' College and stage two of a $3.7m hospital education facility.

The two-year high is $20.2m recorded in December 2013. There were seven consents issued in this category, less than last month's 10. The two year high is 13 consents issued in December 2013.
