New councillor to be sworn in

Tauranga City councillor elect Leanne Brown is to be sworn in at a special council meeting on Wednesday at 1pm.

The former Mount Maunganui main-street manager defeated four other candidates in the by-election for the ward seat vacated by Clayton Mitchell, who was made a NZ First list MP following the national elections last year.

Councillor elect Leanne Brown will be sworn in at a meeting on Wednesday.

The postal by-election was held on February 17, with Leanne declared the winner with a majority of 42 ahead of Clare Wilson.

Leanne, who has been employed as marketing manager for Bethlehem Town Centre, today announced her resignation from that job.

'Following negotiations with senior management, I have officially resigned from my position as Marketing Manager at Bethlehem Town Centre, with my last day in the role being Friday 20th March,” Leanne says in a statement.

'My current role is only part time, and my manager has fortunately been very flexible and understanding of both of my commitments.

'The recruitment process is underway for a replacement to join the marketing team at the Centre.”
