Caravan theft caught on CCTV

A Mount Maunganui resident continues to hold out hope he will re-united with his stolen Pixie caravan after vital CCTV footage emerged.

For the last week, German ex-pat Jonas Ruf has been doing everything he can to get his caravan back, which was taken from outside his Hart Street home last Monday evening.

CCTV footage of a white ute towing Jonas Ruf's caravan along Oceanbeach road towards Papamoa.

He believes the Pixie 10 caravan was stolen from 'it's usual spot” between 10pm on Monday and 7am on Tuesday, and responded by offering a $1000 reward.

Police CCTV footage now shows a white flat-deck ute towing the caravan through the Oceanbeach Road and Golf Road intersection towards Papamoa at around 4am last Tuesday.

Jonas says its great that police have managed to locate some footage of the stolen caravan and is hopeful someone may notice something suspicious or recognise the vehicle.

Jonas has called the public support on social media 'amazing” over the past week, with more than 300 shares on Facebook, while he's also been posting flyers around Mount Maunganui.

He spent six months transforming the old Pixie 10 into something new. From the interior to the exterior and even the wiring, Jonas has replaced the lot.

Even the cabinets were crafted by his own hands.

'I put so much love and time into this project which makes it even harder to realize it might be gone forever,” he says.

'The public support has been amazing.”

Acting Detective Sergeant Sally Prentice-Jones says there have been no leads at this stage, but praises Jonas for his hard work in keeping police informed with any information.

She says with footage now found the images may prompt members of the public to be on the lookout for the vehicle and the caravan.

Anyone with information, or who recognises this ute, can contact Jonas on: 021 201 9060 or Sally at Tauranga Police on: 07 577 4300.

Unusual flatbed ?

There is a bit of giveaway with this ute. Most flat beds are the same width as the cabin but this one looks wider which is quite rare and makes it stick out to observers. So if anyone knows of some with a wide flat bed ute, call the cops. Good luck Jonas

Very common in the BoP, as most beekeepers have one. In fact it looks very similar to my old one, Mitsi L200
