Brewers to get brutal for NMC5 gig

If you go down to Brewers Bar you're in for a big surprise, because six of the heaviest Kiwi metal bands will be tearing it up on Saturday night.

Metal band collective The Northern Musicians Club is presenting NMC5 down at the Mount Maunganui bar, so if you're after a night of head thrashing goodness then don't miss this gig.

On the bill are Tauranga band Psychoclasm, Whakatane's For Tomorrow You Suffer, Rotorua's Down By Nine, plus Auckland bands Broken Season, Obsidious and Incarnium.

NMC event manager Timia Koenig says this is the club's fifth ever show and the first gig they've held so far in Tauranga.

'These six band, they're pretty brutal,” says Timia. 'All of their music is really heavy and the night will cover a broad range of genres that fall within metal.”

Founded in 2014, The Northern Musicians Club is comprised of a roster of 15 bands from the Bay of Plenty, Auckland and Waikato.

Each month they gather metal-heads for gigs at venues that alternate between Auckland, where the majority of the bands are based, and out of town shows like the one being held at Brewers.

All shows are free for NMC members, while the public can catch a great metal gig for a measly $5.

Timia says the goal of the club is to provide their talented and heavy bands with decent crowds to perform for on a regular basis.

'Metal, being a bit of a ‘different kind of taste' for most people, we just want to push those bands to do better and get the recognition they deserve.

'Also, the point of the club is to create a community where all the bands and their fans come out and support one and other.

'Heaps of people like the idea of it and along with that support they're making new contacts, fans and friends.”

NMC's reach stretches as far south as Whakatane and as far north as Whangarei, and within the Bay of Plenty there are five bands which are club members.

Timia says along with Psychoclasm, Down By Nine, and For Tomorrow You Suffer, those Bay bands also include Tauranga's Shedd and Rotorua's Nemesis.

'We want to spread it out as far as we can but at the moment we're focussing on conquering the Bay of Plenty and Auckland.

'So if you want to help us conquer the Bay, and if you like a cheap door entry and heavy, heavy music, then be at Brewer's on Saturday.”

Northern Musicians Club's NCM5 is on stage at Brewers Bar Saturday, from 7pm. Entry costs $5.
