Vigilance urged following thefts

An increase in thefts from vehicles has prompted police to issue a warning to Tauranga car owners.

Senior Sergeant Rob Glencross says areas of Bethlehem, the CBD and the Avenues have seen a noticeable increase in thefts from vehicles in the last two weeks.

People are being asked to report any suspicious activity to police.

Bethlehem, in particular the areas of St Andrews Drive, Bethlehem Heights, and the Athfield Drive area, has seen the most noticeable increase.

'Disappointingly, many of the cars affected are being left unlocked with property inside,” says Glenn.

'People are reminded to remove valuable items from their vehicles and to ensure their cars are locked at any time they are being left unattended.”

Police are very keen on any information as to who might be responsible for this offending as well as any reports of suspicious people or vehicles.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Tauranga Police on: 577 4300 or Crimestoppers on: 0800 555 111.
