A day of change coming March 11

The countdown is on for Kiwis to take part in what is set to be the biggest single day of action in New Zealand health care history.

Change Day on March 11 is a movement designed for all health care professionals to press for change to improve the quality of health care in New Zealand.

This will be the first time New Zealand has officially taken part in the global campaign, but previous success in other countries suggests Change Day will be a day of "mass health care improvement.

The concept is simple: Kiwis get involved by finding something they can do to improve health care quality and pledge it on the Change Day website.

Then on March 11 every person actions their pledge, creating a mass movement of grass-roots health care improvement.

Pledges are already being made by people in all areas of health care; from disability sectors to alcohol, and drug-related harm reduction staff, mental health services and aged care.

The first Change Day took place in the UK back in 2013 and gathered 189,000 online pledges.

The concept began as a true grass-roots movement, with a twitter conversation between young improvement leaders on ways to improve the health service.

The movement itself retained its grass-roots ethos with those in the front-line being major players in fostering change and improvement in health care services.

Between now and March 11, all Kiwis in the health care sector are invited to pledge to make a positive change, to change health care for the better.
