Your thoughts on council restrictions

After receiving a number of complaints from residents about late night use of a skateboard half pipe in Mount Maunganui, the council has decided to put some restrictions in place.

A council sign specifying the hours of operation from 7am to 10pm has been erected to try and combat the problem.

In extra efforts, the ramp will be chained off after 10pm each night, starting tonight and unchained after 7am daily.

The $175,000 vert ramp was opened in December after the old ramp, constructed in 1987, was demolished due to safety reasons.

The smaller version is proving popular with a wide range of skaters, which had led to some complaints and the subsequent restrictions from Tauranga City Council. Read more here.
