Re: ‘Give English a hand up' (The Weekend Sun, February 5). I was interested to read about this petition. However, I'd like to know what special privileges Robin Bishop thinks te reo Maori is enjoying as a result of being made an official language? And does New Zealand Sign Language have similar privileges?
And if the legislation is passed, what special privileges does Robin think the English language will then 'enjoy”?
English is taught at every school - te reo and sign language are not. Where are the 'special privileges” in this?
