UPDATED: Emergency services report one person, believed to be a child, has died in a car crash at Oropi.

Power is out and traffic diverted around the serious road crash near Castles Road.

Callers to 0800SUNLIVE say a person was trapped in wreckage after a car smashed down a power pole.

EARLIER: A power pole is down and emergency responders are working on a crashed car in a paddock at near Castles Road, Oropi. At least one occupant of the car is in a serious condition and emergency services are working to extract and treat a victim.

Police advise residents wishing to get to 740 Oropi Rd or above should travel via Pyes Pa Road.

Callers say power is out in Ohauiti and Oropi.
