Police have commended the behaviour of spectators during the first day of the second NRL Nines tournament in Auckland.

Inspector Peter Gibson says the vast majority of the supporters appeared to have enjoyed day one of the event.

"The crowds were generally well behaved with Police assisting Eden Park security when dealing with a comparatively small amount of intoxication and unacceptable behaviour. "Three people were arrested in the stadium for either drug or antisocial behaviour.

The stadium security staff evicted 28 patrons for alcohol related matters.

"My staff were satisfied with the security and management within Eden Park who were vigilant around control of alcohol consumption in the stadium and consistent when denying entry into the grounds to those who had obviously consumed too much alcohol beforehand."

Mr Gibson says last night was marginally but tolerably busier in the city for Police but there were no major issues to speak of.

He advised those intending to attend day two of the Nines to ensure they locked parked vehicles and ensured no valuables were left in view of opportunist thieves.

Once again, supporters were urged to take it easy on the drink and enjoy the day safely.
