Danielle Quigley and Melissa Ruru have claimed championship glory after winning the first women's semi-final against Mount Maunganui's Kiana Tawa and Emma Flynn at the Mount Maunganui Beach Volleyball Open 2015.

SunLive photographer Cameron Avery was at the Mount Maunganui Beach Volleyball Open 2015 at Mount Main Beach this morning to capture some of the action.

In drizzly conditions at Mount Main Beach this morning, the pair guaranteed themselves the number one seating for the New Zealand Beach Volleyball Open at Auckland's ASB Tennis Centre on February 21-22.

The country's top 24 men and women's teams are battling it out on the sand in the third National Beach Tour event of the summer.

Volleyball NZ beach volleyball tour director Tim Cleaver says it's looking good for Tauranga girls Shannen Bagge and Susana Vega as the second women's semi-final gets underway.

'Shannen and Susana have just taken the first set against Tauranga's Alice Bain and Bex Story, from Gisborne.”

Tim hopes the sun will come out before the finals begin at 3pm and 4pm.

'Yesterday was excellent conditions for beach volleyball and now we're just hoping that the sun can poke through this afternoon.”
