Hamilton bowls over Super Eight

Hamilton Boys High School's cricketing supremacy continues after comfortably clinching their third successive Super Eight Cricket crown.

After three days of pool play in Tauranga, including bowling the home side out for just 54 in one match, the defending champions eased past Palmerston North Boys High School in the 2015 title decider at Ferguson Park.

Winning the toss and asking their Manawatu opponents to bat, Hamilton had the opponents at six down with 100 runs on the board.

Palmerston North lost a further wicket at the 131 run mark, before three further wickets fell in quick order – dismissed for just 133.

Matti Clarke grabbed four cheap wickets, with bowler of the tournament Brayden Gaylor returning 3/28.

Led by batsman of the tournament Jake Gibson, posting 35 not out, the Hamilton side reached their target with five wickets in hand, to add the 2015 Super Eight Crown to their 2013 and 2014 titles.

Hamilton were never really troubled throughout the four days of the 2015 Super Eight tournament. They posted 166 and 103 run victories batting first and an eight wicket win to go with their five wicket final victory.

Hosts Tauranga Boys' College, mirrored their last year's performance finishing fourth, when they were beaten by New Plymouth Boys High School on finals day. Tauranga Boys took first use of the batting strip at Nicholson Field and were eventually dismissed for 160 in the 43rd over.

Sean Dykes top-scored with 56, with Tauranga Boys bowler Gurwinder Singh posting a handy 22 runs. Tim Williams was the pick of the New Plymouth bowlers returning 3/39 while Davis Mills and Brodie Lilly took two wickets apiece.

New Plymouth opener Josh Borrell got his side away to a good start with a hard fought 45.

But just when Tauranga Boys had fought their way back into the match, Sam Morrison arrived at the crease to take them home to victory with an unbeaten 45 runs.
