A crowd of 8,500 people sung and danced the afternoon away to classic rock music at the Whitianga Waterways Arena on Sunday.

International music legends Heart, Foreigner and Three Dog Night were joined on the bill by Kiwi duo Simon Claxton and David Shanhun who set the scene for a day of great live music.

Sunday's concert was the second of the three show summer tour and the iconic bands will now enjoy a completely different setting when the play Queenstown this upcoming weekend.

Greenstone Entertainment CEO Amanda Calvert says the first two concerts have been a huge success.

'Whitianga was a wonderful location to bring the Summer Concert Tour and we will be back,” says Amanda.

The concert was humming by 1pm with Three Dog Night the first of the international line-up to take to the stage.

Amanda says they had the crowd really moving for their set, which was closed with their immortal classic ‘Joy To The World'.

They were followed up by rock legends Foreigner, led by Mick Jones and 'the amazing Kelly Hansen” on vocals.

It was a humungous sing along when Foreigner performed their much loved songs ‘I Wanna Know What Love Is' and ‘Cold as Ice'.

By then Whitianga Waterways was full of people dancing and partying, with the finale yet to come.

It was to rapturous crowd applause that Heart took to the stage for their opening hit song ‘Barracuda'.

'The powerful vocals of Ann Wilson accompanied by her sister Nancy on guitar commanded complete attention.

'[They] showed everyone why they were inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. A couple of lucky concert-goers even had Happy Birthday sung to them by the crowd.”

Amanda says three international rock bands, a great new venue and a perfect Sunday made the Whitianga concert fly.
