Kids dig deep at the Mount

Youngsters from across the region and beyond gathered for Mount Maunganui's annual beach dig this morning, with hundreds taking part.

The 93.4 More FM Mount McDonald's Beach Dig saw children of all ages take part in the treasure hunt under clear blue skies and beautiful sunshine.

The event has been a summer tradition for about 15 years, with children aged between two and 11 digging for prizes on the sand directly opposite Mount Surf Club.

Entry was a gold coin donation, with all funds going towards the Mount Maunganui Lifeguard Service's Junior Surf Programme.

More FM operations manager Jolene James says: 'More FM are official sponsors of the lifeguard service.

'It's the way we support them every year and obviously what they do on the beach every year is very valuable and a great chance for beachgoers to support them too.”

Major prizes included $75 worth of Mount Maunganui McDonalds vouchers and more.
