Bail granted for stabbing accused

A 40-year-old woman accused of being involved in an assault that took place hours before the body of 19-year-old Takena Tiepa-Ranapia was found has been released on bail.

The woman, who has name suppression on the grounds the police investigation is still in its early stages, appeared in Tauranga District Court where her bail application was granted.


Three people are facing charges in relation to an assault in Ohauiti in November.

The accused was arrested last Tuesday and charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily, assault with a weapon and possession of cannabis.

She had been in custody for around four days.

She is jointly charged with two men on the assault relation charges.

The men are also facing a murder charge in relation to the death of Takena.

They have been remanded in custody and are due back in Tauranga District Court on January 28.

The accused woman is due to appear in the Registrar's Court on January 29.

Not allowed in the BOP and that's where her family all live, so no will be on her own. innocent until proven guilty.
