Added Spark for summer

Spark is bringing 4G to the Bay of Plenty this summer, giving locals and holiday-makers superfast mobile data speeds just in time for Christmas.

In anticipation of a huge influx of visitors to the region over the coming weeks, the telecommunications giant has extended its 4G footprint to five mobile sites across Waihi, Tauranga, Mount Maunganui and Katikati, giving customers access to faster mobile speeds.

4G is being rolled out across the Bay of Plenty in time for the busy holiday period.

Spark has also installed a portable mobile site at the Mount to ensure customers who spend their summer break in the popular surf spot have better mobile coverage despite the big spike in the population over the Christmas and New Year period.

'Better access to mobile data will make it faster and easier for customers to do the things they already love to do on their smartphones,” says Spark networks general manager Colin Brown, 'such as watching videos, streaming music or uploading to social media, whether they're at the beach or minding the sausages on the barbeque.

'We've been working hard to make sure customers can stay connected all summer long by doubling the amount of capacity upgrades we've made on our mobile network across New Zealand this year.”

Ahead of Christmas Day the company has also livened about 80 mobile sites with 4G across the country on both the 700MHz and 1800MHz radio spectrums.

Capacity expansions and improvements have been made on 13, 3G mobile sites in the region in preparation for the huge demand for customers to stay connected all summer

Customers can also tap into free wifi zones across the Bay to get up to 1GB of free wifi data every day via the free Spark Wifi mobile app.

Users must have a 4G-capable device to connect. Mobile sites that have been livened with 4G over the 700MHz spectrum will require customers to have a device that can also operate on this spectrum.

If vodafone was as good as you say they are, capt kaveman, then we would have vodafone coverage at my place in suburban Matua. But we don't, so I think they are useless. We have great 2degrees and Spark coverage. Vodafone are not interested in providing coverage in our part of the city.
