Tauranga fire fighters are dealing with a fire in the roof space of a house in Ngatai Road.

The alarm was raised at about 11.30am, and fire fighters are using breathing apparatus and two high pressure hoses to deal with the blaze.

They are removing roofing iron to get to the seat of the blaze, says NZ Fire Service northern communications centre shift manager Scott Osmond.

The house is opposite the BP service station near Otumoetai Road.

There is no information at this stage about the cause of the blaze, or if there were people inside the building when the fire took hold.
