Police warn against speed and fatigue

Speed and fatigue are being found to be common causes of poor driving behaviour in the Bay of Plenty.

Bay Police are receiving regular driving complaints about drivers travelling on State Highway 5, between Taupo and Rotorua.

Bay of Plenty Police are asking drivers to make sure they are well rested and stick to the speed limits if they are planning on going on long distance drives over the holidays.

'When we locate and stop many of these vehicles, we are finding that both speed and fatigue are common reasons for the poor driving standard,” says a statement from police.

'These are both known causes of serious injury and fatal crashes and they are both avoidable.

'We are in a beautiful part of the world, so no one should want to speed through it and risk never getting to see it again.

And if you're tired, stop, have a rest and soak up the scenery. They are both much better options than the tragic alternatives.”

People who do witness poor driving behaviour are advised to report it by calling 111 if they think it's an emergency or reporting a complaint to 555.
