Papamoa College’s artistic flair

It has been four years in the making, but Papamoa College's creative side is proudly shining through with its inaugural art exhibition.

Launched on Monday, the exhibition running throughout summer at Papamoa Plaza is the product of students' hard work with paintbrushes and cameras in hand.

Papamoa College art teacher Helen MacDuff says the students' work spans fields from painting to photography and design.

She adds it is a great achievement for the school to have its first art exhibition as the artists have been building their skills for the last four years.

The co-educational school opened its doors in February 2011 as the city's fifth state secondary school and now has a school roll of 837.

'It's a privilege to be a part of the process, to see their hard work culminate into fantastic art and excellent results,” says Helen.

Papamoa College photography and art teacher Jo Puha says the exhibition is a wonderful opportunity to see the depth of talent available in the community.

Jo says: 'One of the aspects of art education that I value is the voice it gives to our youth in a hectic world where often their opinions and energy are stifled.

'This year, we had fun with the exciting completion of student folios. It was like an early Christmas.”

The exhibition can be viewed at Papamoa Plaza throughout the summer.
