Farewell for Katikati local

Friends and family will gather on Saturday to say their goodbyes to Katikati woman Shirley O'Connor.

The 88-year-old died from injuries she sustained after being hit by a car carrier while on her mobility scooter on Monday.


A service for Shirley O'connor will be held at St Pauls Presbyterian Church in Katikati on Saturday.

Her death has been referred to the coroner.

Shirley was clipped by the truck as it headed towards Tauranga on State Highway 2, between Jocelyn Street and Fairview Road at about 12.40pm on Monday.

She was found underneath the truck's trailer and was taken to Tauranga Hospital in a critical condition and passed away on Tuesday.

In her funeral notice, Shirley is described as a loved wife of the late Alan O'Connor and the late Don Page. Loved sister and sister-in-law of Lewis and the late Isabel, Ralph and Velma, and Bernice and Ken.

She is also referred to as a dearly loved aunt who will be missed by all of her nieces and nephews.

A service for Shirley will be held at St Pauls Presbyterian Church, corner Main Highway and Mulgan Street, Katikati on Saturday at 11am.

Her service will be followed by a private cremation.
