Update 12.20PM: Firefighters have managed to free a woman who was trapped in a lift at Mount Medical Centre this afternoon.

Northern Fire Communications shift manager Michael Upton confirms the woman has been rescued from the lift at the medical centre on Maunganui Rd.

Mount Maunganui and Tauranga fire brigades attended.

Meanwhile, firefighters are responding to a fire near the railway tracks at Borell Rd in Te Puna.

Michael says there's an area of vegetation on fire about 40m by 6m next to the railway line.

"They've managed to get it all under control."

Two Tauranga fire trucks are at the scene.
