Angelic delight in the city

Simon Bridges, Todd Muller and Stuart Crosby are some of the first people to have their photos taken with the new mural on The Strand, opposite Starbucks.

Angel wings and elephants are two aspects of the mural, which was painted on the wall near Devonport Road on Saturday.

The mural is the creation of Tauranga graphic designer Tara Fowler and local artist Millie Newitt.

The two women were commissioned by Downtown Tauranga with the aim of bringing more art to the city.

'The idea behind it is so the public can come and interact with it,” says Tara.

'If they stand in front of the wings, they then look like their own wings. We're trying to get interaction between the public and art.

'Also, we want to get a lot of sharing involved so people can take a photo and upload it to Facebook, Instagram, or wherever, and get people spreading the word about art in the city.”

Tara says the idea for the mural come after her and Millie thought about things they liked and quirky ideas.

...the mayor appears to be pondering his role as an angel. Maybe the other two have yet to meet the elephant in the room - politically.

is white, it would be apt for S. Bridges to stand in front of that. That is, out of proportion to his usefulness!. Come to think of it, so should S Crosby!
