Including the Millers Road crash, there have been five crash in the Tauranga area in the last 24 hours.

One on State Highway 2, near Domain Road, at 8.39am was followed by the three car crash on Turret Road at 1.11pm.

There was also a three car nose-to-tail on Cameron Road, near 14th Ave, at 1.20pm, the Millers Road crash and a car-versus-parked car on Patterson Place in Mount Maunganui at at 10.26pm.

Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion says it seems to him that people aren't taking the required care.

'The Tauranga driving public need to take care, they need to start concentrating on what they are doing and driving safely,” he says.

'It's my intention to take a very firm line with drivers that caused the crashes, and if they are found to be at fault they can expect either court or infringement action.

'Police spend a lot of time engaging in prevention activity and working with road safety partners to try to stop crashes from happening,” adds Ian.

'We need everyone out there to take a high level of care and drive safely. These sort of crash numbers are simply not acceptable.”
