Traffic chaos due to “inattention”

A crash which caused rush-hour chaos in Tauranga yesterday is being attributed to 'inattention” by police.

A nose-to-tail was the cause of huge delays on 15th Ave following crash on State Highway 2a, heading towards the Maungatapu Road.

Two cars crashed on State Highway 2a, heading towards the Maungatapu Road yesterday.

Two cars crashed at around 4.40pm causing heavy congestion in the area.

Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion says a second crash happened at around 5.30pm.

Ian says the first crash caused traffic to slow because the road where the crashed happened is quite narrow.

'Both crashes were non-injury and minor nose-to-tails,” he says. 'Inattention and misjudgement is likely to be the cause.

'In general the number of crashes is disappointing. I ask motorists to pay attention while they are driving.”

Autonomous cars should be priority instead of stupid plans for a new flag. Meaning, road safety is much more important and can be improved greatly by autonomous cars.
