Block appearance for Bay auctioneer

Tauranga auctioneer Blair Cashmore has made it two from two on The Block, helping one of the teams sell their house on live television once again.

For the second year in a row, Blair, who works for Bayleys in Tauranga, was the auctioneer for Quinn and Ben Alexandre for the third property to go under the hammer.

With a handful of bidders on the property, from a well-attended crowd, the Pt Chevalier, Auckland house sold for $1,335,000 on TV3, earning them just $10,000.

Last year Blair was auctioneer for Alisa Keall-Grant and Koan Vette, with the house in Belmont, Auckland selling for $1,014,000 and the couple walking away with a profit of $66,000.

Following his second national television appearance, Blair admits the nerves subsided a fraction but were still present when he stepped on stage to help sell Quinn and Ben's house for a reasonable price and give them a chance of winning the 10-week renovation show.

'The nerves were definitely still there, there is no doubt about it. She is a little bit different to a normal auction,” he says.

'But it was very exciting. You don't do that every day.”

But the side's disappointing $10,000 left them in last place with Alex and Corban Walls' Pt Chevalier home selling for $1,552,000, giving them $307,000 in profit and prize-money.

Among the other teams, Maree Wright and James Steele had a profit of $147,000 on a $1.45m sale, while Jo and Damo Neal made $61,000 on a $1.375m sale.

Blair says the $1.5m mark set by Alex and Corban in the opening auction may have been in factor in the lower selling price, but at the same time interest on Quinn and Ben's was a touch less.

'The feedback on my one [Quinn and Ben's] was a bit less than the others homes so we sort of expected it to be pretty tight,” he adds.

But in a move that has won the hearts of Block-a-holics, Alex and Corban gave Quinn and Ben $30,000 of their winnings after just getting above their reserve price.

'I think it was very disappointing for them obviously to only get $10,000 over the reserve but hey that's how it went,” says Blair.

'But what a nice gesture for the other team to give them $30,000.”
