Today's Wheelie Fun Day at Tauranga Racecourse is a fundraiser to purchase specially-adapted three-wheelers for children with disabilities to get more mobile and enjoy outings with their families.

From 11am today, hot rods, a BMX display, classic and vintage cars, market stalls, a bouncy castle and something called a ‘tug of wheel' entertained families.

A ferris wheel, wheelie bin race, best dressed cart, jeep rides and more were on offer for a $5 donation to the cause.

The boy on the poster, eight-year-old Fergus Aitken has already received a bike and has since been able to pick up firewood from the wood pile at home for his mother Sandra Peter.

The club hopes funds raised from today will go towards purchasing a further 10 bikes for a further 10 special youngsters.

The event is organised by Te Puna and Bethlehem Lions Clubs.
