In a judge alone trial in Tauranga District Court, the two men, through their defence lawyers Glenn Dixon, acting for Ranapia and Rita Nabney, acting for Toeke, will defend the charges.

According to police documents the two men entered a Karewa Parade house with intent to commit an offence, while armed with a hammer on the morning of March 7.

A large police presence including uniformed officers and detectives could be seen outside the home and officers could be seen talking to people at the property.

Ranapia and Toeke have both been remanded in custody since the incident.

It is estimated the trial will last a full day.
