Katikati’s Rocky Horror Halloween

Zombies, witches and ghouls danced alongside cowboys, cowgirls, Indians and pirates to the music of Kokomo at the Rocky Horror Halloween Hoe Down in Katikati last night.

Host and star of the show Richard O'Brien thrilled the 150 revellers when he joined the musicians on stage for most of the evening, playing guitar and singing.

Richard O'Brien thrilled revellers at the Rocky Horror Halloween Hoe Down he hosted in Katikati last night.

Two renditions of 'The Time Warp”, the song he wrote for his world-famous 40-year-old musical 'The Rocky Horror Show” threated to send the crowd, and the Katikati Primary School Hall into orbit.

Earlier in the day Richard and a team of volunteers had dressed the hall in Halloween theme, including tables strewn with apples, tangelos, chips and chocolates as grown-up versions of traditional Halloween treats.

The evening was all about having fun, but it's more serious side was to raise money for Katikati's much-needed new St John Ambulance Station.

The $800,000 project now has less than $200,000 to raise, following a $500,000 bequest and more than $100,000 in donations from local business and families, and funding from trusts.

Richard and wife Sabrina decided to host the Halloween party as a fundraiser after Richard was so well cared for by St John officers following a back injury.

The couple moved to the Katikati district in 2010 for a more quiet life. Richard and his 'Rocky Horror Show” are internationally famous, with the movie 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show” achieving cult status which endures today.

Richard and Sabrina have pledged to donate $20,000 to the St John appeal as a result of last night's party.
