A passion for fitness and lack of affordable workout supplements in New Zealand saw three Te Puke men set up their own company in the fast-growing industry - to much success.

Adonis Industries, the brainchild of Stuart Pearson, Nick Walsh and Mitchell Ralph, launched its range of workout supplements via an e-commerce website in February and has recently secured shelf space in retail store Mass Nutrition.

Mass Nutrition supplies quality products for bodybuilding, nutritional, sports and weight loss supplements across Australia.

'It all started when the three of us moved back to the Bay after spending a couple of years in Australia,” explains co-owner, Stuart.

'We had been working in mines in Perth and living in a middle-of-nowhere town called Kalgoorlie. The only thing to do there was go to the gym.”

On their return to New Zealand, the trio noticed a 'huge gap” in the market for good, affordable supplements made locally.

On the back of this discovery, Adonis Industries, a business aimed at selling no-frills healthy supplements with an affordable price tag, was born.

The new business owners researched, sourced, tested and trialled their products until they were sale-ready; a lengthy process that included using themselves and their friends as guinea pigs.

'We now have a range of products for sale which we are very proud of,” says Nick.

'Our products all are affordable, effective and contain natural flavours and colours. We kept our ingredients simple, safe and natural so our customers can rest assured that what they are taking is healthy.

'We didn't want an ingredients list full of chemicals like some alternatives on the market.

'It was trial and error at the beginning; seeing what balance of ingredients worked in the pre-workout, which flavours were best in the protein powders, and so on. It was great though – especially when we had perfected the recipes and the real fun could start!”

It appears that their hard work is already paying off, as the full Adonis range is being sold at Tauranga Mixed Martial Arts gym, where Stuart is a member.

The men were also approached recently by Mass Nutrition Mount Maunganui owner Paul McMah, who is now stocking the full range of Adonis products in his Cruise Deck store.

'We wanted to get behind and work with a local company, with natural products, that athletes could relate to,” says Paul.
