Mount chase three peat

Multiple WBOPCA Reserve Grade title holders Mount Maunganui, are making a grand start to chasing further Western Bay silverware, with a unbeaten start to the Reserve First Round competition.

In week one of the early season title race, the Mount beat archrivals Greerton before backing up to defeat Tauranga Boys' College.

On Saturday they meet Sikh Sports Club, one of the new recruits to Western Bay cricket.

A Mount batsman, the Sikh XI will need to have a wary eye on, is Joel Thompson who tops the batting table with 144 runs after just two games.

Tauranga Boys' College second eleven youngster, Brad Howard has made a dream start in senior men's cricket, having captured six bowling scalps since season start.

This weekend, the promising bowler has an opportunity to add to his total, when Tauranga Boys meet long time Western Bay Reserve Grade heavyweights Cadets at the Tauranga Domain.

Joint competition leaders R & A Sangha CC travel to Te Puke's Centennial Park in Te Puke to face the home team, with Greerton hosting Katikati at Pemberton Park.

A pair of Grasshoppers players head the honours in the early B Grade batting and bowling list. Ray Body is number one in the batting stakes with 76 runs, while Wayne Anderson leads the bowlers tally with six wickets.

On Saturday the Hoppers play former B Grade title holders Mount Maunganui at Ferguson Park.

Last season, Wanderers came with a rattle in the second half of the season to win the B Grade Championship.

They might have to pull the rabbit out of the hat again, if they wish to win the first round competition, after suffering two first up losses.

Fellow Ferguson Park based side Albion are the weekend opponents, with the winner banking their first victory of the season.

New recruits in the Singh XI, who are based in Te Puke, will be chasing three wins on the trot when they play Greerton, with Cadets and Katikati squaring off at Waipuna Park.
