Severe weather watched issued

Metservice has issued a severe weather watch for the Coromandel Peninsula with strong gales likely to hit tomorrow night.

A series of fast moving fronts are expected to cross New Zealand today and Wednesday, with periods of gale west to northwest winds over much of the country.

Westerly gales are likely to hit the Coromandel on Wednesday night and continue through until Thursday morning.

The Metservice is advising locals to stay up to date with latest forecasts in the event that any part of its severe weather watch is upgraded to a warning.

This watch will be reviewed by 9pm tonight.
