Fatal crash victim named

The nine-year-old girl who died after a crash in the Bay of Plenty has been named as Lydia Anne Milbank from Matata.

Lydia was flown to Rotorua Hospital in a critical condition after she had been hit by a motorbike on State Highway 30, near Lake Rotoma, on Monday.

Bay of Plenty District Command Centre, Senior Sergeant Courtney Brunt says she died a short time later.

Officer in charge of the Eastern Bay of Plenty road policing group Sergeant Ray Wylie says the serious crash unit is currently investigating the crash.

'The family wish to express their appreciation to those who stopped and assisted at the crash scene on Sunday,” he says.

The girl's death takes the Labour Weekend road toll to three, after a 75-year-old woman was killed on Saturday following a head-on crash with a truck on SH1, near Tokoroa.

Another person was killed on Friday when a car and a truck crashed on the Dairy Flat Highway, north of Auckland.
