Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter pilot Todd Dunham says the man suffered a serious neck injury.

The man was treated at the scene by St John paramedics before being flown to Middlemore Hospital for further treatment.

Todd says the helicopter was called due to the injury which required minimal movement and the distance to the Auckland hospital.
