The inaugural Tour of the Bay of Plenty is taking place this weekend.

Cyclists of all abilities will be taking part in the inaugural 2014 Holiday Inn Tour of the Bay of Plenty. On each day will be two different distances, the classic tour with stages between 60km and 80km and the Starter Tour with stages between 30 and 40 km.

There is a time trial of 11.6 KM which will really spice up the general classification.

'It is important that cyclists and drivers alike take joint responsibility for safety and share the road,” says a statement from police.

Cyclists will be travelling from Rotorua to Te Teko, through to Awaiti, and from Awaiti to Matata.
