Public appeal in shooting case

While investigations into the circumstances surrounding the police's shooting of a gunman in Kerepehi continue, the independent senior investigator overseeing the case says the public can play a part in establishing what happened.

Detective Inspector Mark Loper of the Bay of Plenty Police says examinations of a property linked to the incident had been completed and the home returned to its occupants.

Three separate investigations into the police shooting of a 50-year-old man are continuing.

'While this has been completed,” he says, 'plenty of work remains to be done as we work to build up an accurate picture of Tuesday night's events.

'In particular we know that just after the shooting on SH2 took place, two vehicles approached the scene heading south towards Paeroa from the direction of Ngatea and were asked to turn around.”

Mark says investigators would like to hear from the occupants of these vehicles and ask that they contact the inquiry team at the Paeroa Police Station on: 07 862 8744.

Meanwhile the man at the centre of the inquiry remains in a serious but stable condition in the High Dependency Unit of Waikato Hospital.
