Brief cold snap for Bay

A cold front will grip the country on Friday as the MetService forecasts an overnight low of six degrees for the Bay of Plenty.

MetService meteorologist Georgina Griffiths says southwesterlies are forecast for Friday morning, with the winds becoming strong and gusty by the afternoon.

'A sharp southeast change will come in later,” she says. '

'While the wind change doesn't look to have much weather with it, it does herald in some colder air - and the possibility of a very strong pressure kick through Colville Channel.”

The prognosis for weekend functions is looking great for Saturday night, with dying winds and settled weather, adds Georgina.

Saturday's forecast for the Tauranga region is for fine weather with light winds and Sunday is looking cloudy with northwesterly winds developing.
