Rosies rocking this Saturday

This Saturday Rosie O'Grady's in Mount Maunganui will be overflowing with musical goodness when three local acts take to the stage.

For a measly $15 you can catch local band Tuner, joined by special guests Megan Sidwell and Brendan Mccarthy at the Rata St bar.

Headliners Tuner is the side project of Derek Toner, founding member of local bands The Mellow Drops and Nine Mile Stone.

Derek's debut album ‘The Importance of Yar' was released in April and met with favourable reviews. It was described as 'Neil Finn and Glen Hansard have a baby – Roger Waters is the midwife”.

After the album's release Derek has been busy on the live front, providing solo support for Swamp Thing in August by performing with his full band at the Tauranga Waterfront Festival.

Derek says there is always plenty of banter and crowd interaction at a Tuner show.

'As you would expect from a man who honed his communication skills in smoky, story-telling Irish taverns,” he says.

Tauranga native Megan Sidwell is an award winning singer-songwriter who is based in Auckland.

She's currently working on a music video for her single ‘Forever on a Sunday', taken from her 2013 debut EP of the same name, which will be released this month.

Megan's also been working with Goldenhorse founding member Ben King at Auckland's Roundhead Studios on a new single to be released in November.

Rounding out the line-up is Dunedin ex-pat Brendan Mccarthy, guitarist for popular Tauranga covers band Shabang.

He has worked as a lighting engineer at Dunedin's oldest nightclub Sammy's and played the lower South Island circuit in cover bands before heading north and shifting to the guitar.

Brendan is currently recording an album at Colourfield Studios in Welcome Bay and will be bringing his brand of contemporary guitar rock with a little help from Anthony Coulter on Piano this Saturday.

Tuner, with special guests Brendan McCarthy and Megan Sidwell, play Rosie O'Grady's in Mount Maunganui, this Saturday from 7.30pm

Tickets cost $15 and can be purchased from Rosie O'Grady's, Mayers Music Planet and Garden Forest Marine. Limited door sales will be available on the night.
