Boat rolls on Whakatane bar

A tinny with a single person on board rolled while crossing the Whakatane bar this morning.

The middle aged man was wearing a life jacket and was brought ashore in another boat, says Whakatane Coastguard president Jim Williamson.

Whakatane Coastguard say the man fell overboard this monring.

He was wet but is otherwise uninjured, says Jim.

'That's the beauty of having a life jacket,” he adds. 'It was just a little dinghy and the fella fell out of it. It's all good, nothing too serious.”

He is yet to speak to the rescued man.

The Whakatane Coastguard's harbour-cam shows conditions on the bar are good, with a slight swell.
