Gunpoint pizza robbery

UPDATED: 8am. A man accused of a gunpoint pizza robbery last night will appear in Tauranga District Court today.

The 23-year-old was arrested by armed police in Merivale at 11pm last night after the delivery driver complained to police.

AOS members assembled at Fraser Cove before making the arrest.

He was delivering a pizza to a Merivale address shortly after 9pm when a man presented a gun and demanded he hand over the pizza, says acting Western Bay of Plenty response manager Owen O'Brien.

'The delivery driver fled and immediately contacted Police,” says Owen.

The Tauranga Armed Offenders Squad was deployed. They located and arrested the 23-year-old man in Parkvale approximately an hour later.

He is charged with aggravated robbery and will be appearing in Tauranga District Court today to face an Aggravated Robbery charge.

Police have not said what type of pizza it was.

This is the tip of the iceburge for crime here in NZ. If society doesn't take care of the impoverished, we will surely end up like the USA (over 2 million people in jail and daily murders).

If we ended up with over 2 million in jail, NZ would be a better place

BennyBenson - have u lived in the USA?

No, New Zealand would be a very bad place to live if 2 million people were in jail. It would be a prison state just like the USA is. You wouldn't be able to escape being a victim of crime. I am a USA citizen, I have first hand knowledge of the horrors of their failed system. There is no justice when it comes to a family member being murdered.
